While you should always get the green light from your doctor first, when you’re ready, know that there are plenty of safe, feel-good positions, and pregnancy is an ideal time to expand your horizons.
Ready to get busy? Bump and grind through each trimester with these 9 doctor-approved pregnancy sex positions 😉
This move is not only gentle, but it’s a shallower form of penetrative sex than many positions (you know, in case you’re still a little freaked out about baby getting poked in the head). Besides, it also offers a great view and is a steamier sex position that can help if you’re trying to keep your sex drive up during pregnancy and connect with your partner.
How to: Sit on the bed facing each other. Lift your partner’s right leg over your left, and lift your right leg over his left. Now lean back, while your partner props himself up with his arms. Then have him gently gyrate into you, rather than aggressively thrust.
This variation on spooning allows you to bolster intimacy by facing one another, which allows for more eye contact, kissing, and romantic or dirty talk.
How to: You’ll be lying on your side, which is often one of the most comfortable positions to be in, especially as your belly grows. You may feel even more supported in this position by placing a pillow behind you or a towel or pillow under your stomach.
This position does more than give you rest. It’s one of the best positions during pregnancy because, by tilting your pelvis, it changes the depth of penetration to mix ~things~ up.
How to: Lie face down on a bed, with your knees bent and hips raised. Lean forward and prop your body up using your forearms and pillows. Have your partner enter you from behind, while also bending his knees.
The Hot Seat
This is totally safe (and pleasurable) for you since you’re not lying on his abdomen and your partner is doing a lot of the work.
How to: Have your partner sit on the edge of a bed or chair and lower yourself down, facing away. This allows for maximum leverage, and you can test out which angles feel most comfortable.
Pro tip: To make things extremely sexy and intimate, try this position in front of a mirror. Thank me later😉
Every woman has a different level of comfort with this position, but if you love your pregnant body, this is the position for you. Your partner will get a perfect view of your ample breasts, full hips, and round belly. This can be so empowering during pregnancy and of course, in this position, you completely control the speed, depth, and pattern of thrusts.
How to: Have your partner lie down on his back with his legs outstretched. Kneel next to them, then spread your legs and straddle your partner’s hips while facing forward. While kneeling, lower yourself down and begin riding up and down, as slow or fast as feels comfortable.
Up on all fours, this position keeps pressure off the belly, allowing you to stay more comfortable.
How to: Get on your hands and knees, either on the bed or floor. Have your partner enter you from behind.
Pro tip: From this position, he can also easily add in some clitoral stimulation to take you straight to O-town.
This position is great for the third trimester, since it provides a comfortable position for you and easy access for your partner-which if you ask me, I’d definitely call, “a win-win” 😉
How to: Sit with your butt on the edge of a bed, bench, counter, or table, with your partner supporting your legs. Have your partner enter you from this position. Easy-peasy.
Due to the size of your belly at this stage, this position offers you a switched-up sensation and perspective without compromising the benefits of classic cowgirl.
Be sure to keep up the clitoral stimulation in this position.
How to: Have your partner lie on his back with legs outstretched. Kneel next to your partner, then turn and spread your legs, straddling their hips while facing his feet. Kneeling, lower yourself down, and begin riding up and down.
By lying on your side, you take any pressure off of your back and uterus (yessss) while still managing to get your belly out of the way, it’s super-gentle and doesn’t allow for deep penetration, which can become uncomfortable.
How to: You both lie on your sides facing the same direction, your partner behind you. Bend your knees slightly and push your butt toward him, so he can enter you. Adjusting the lean of your bodies will vary the angle of entry and help with rocking and thrusting.
The main thing to remember: there’s really no right or wrong way to have sex during pregnancy, it’s all about listening to your body and doing what feels right — so go for it!
